All eyes on Mikel

Published by Punch on Sat, 19 Nov 2011

On Sunday Chelsea army will file out against Liverpool at the Stamford Bridge. That is surely one game to watch. But for Stephen Keshi and indeed friends of Nigerian football the game also presents a different scene to watch.Eyes will also be on the pitch to see if Mikel Obi, Michael Obi or John Obiwhichever name Chelsea may adopt for him to confuse Nigerians. We all wait to see if Mikel will play this match or not. From the way he behaved in Abuja ahead of the games against Botswana and Zambia, that back pain cannot give way within one week. Keshi has already expressed his doubts and fears and he is eagerly waiting to see if the Mikel that could not train in Nigeria will be fit to play a grade A plus game in London. If he does play and I were the Super Eagles coach...Let me leave out what my action would have been for now but it surely would not taste fine if he gets so fit to play. Dont tell me that excellent medical facilities over there changed everything so fast for him because he actually touched down in Abuja with the same pain.My point is for Mikel to watch out. If he had problem with Samson Siasia and he gets into trouble with keshi the simple mathematics gives me the answer that the greater part of the problem lies with the man in him and not the coaches. Mikel you have to prove to us that you really love the Nigerian jersey.Dont ask me how just prove it your own way.
