Produce entrepreneurs not applicants 'Sanusi

A former Central Bank Governor, Dr. Joseph Sanusi, on Friday urged authorities of the Federal University of Technology, Akure to leverage on the institutions technological advancement by producing entrepreneural graduates.He said the introduction of entrepreneural studies in the university curriculum remained the best way to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.He made the suggestion shortly after a Computer Resource Centre was named after him as part of the activities marking the 23rd convocation anniversary of the institution.He advised universities to keep a data base on their former students so that they could contribute to the institutions development.Sanusi commended the university for allowing him "to stamp his foot on the sand of time" and promised to work for the development of the institution.He, however, said the plan of the institution to be the best university of technology could not be achieved without serious commitment from the stakeholders.He said, "The university should be a creator of people, who will be creator of jobs. They should be trained to be self-reliant. The university should train students on entrepreneurial skill."The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Adebisi Balogun, said the centre was named after Sanusi because of his contributions to the advancement of education not only in the university, but in the country.
