Nigeria's future is bright 'Jonathan

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan is confident that the country has made steady progress in spite of the numerous challenges it is grappling with, stressing the need for all sections to work together to consolidate the gains already achieved.He said this when he inaugurated a presidential committee on the review of outstanding constitutional issues at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday.Jonathan, who observed that Nigeria was at the threshold of great possibilities, said despite the present challenges, the nation's sense of togetherness was strong and its democracy was deepening.'I make bold to say that the outlook for the future of our country is good. We are at peace with the world, and we remain well-respected internationally,' he said.He added that since every nation was a work in progress, each one had its share of unfinished businesses, adding that 'Nigeria is no different. Now is the time for us to make even greater efforts to find new answers to old-age problems that have long confronted us.'Jonathan said he inaugurated the committee to develop draft bills on previously agreed issues that would go a long way to strengthen the unity of the country.The committee has Justice Mohammed Belgore as chairman and Senator Udoma Udo Udoma as vice chairman.Chief Ebenezer Baba-tope, Mr Ledum Mitee, Dr Abubakar Saddique, Ms Comfort Obi, Mr Peter Esele, Professor Oladapo Afolabi, Professor Jerry Gana, Mr Tessy Ikimi, Mr G.O.S. Miri, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, Ambassador Jibrin Chinade, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, Professor Anya O. Anya, and Dr Chukwu-emeka Ezeife are members.Also named as members are Alhaja Salimot Badru, Hajia Najatu Mohammed, Mr Ferdinand Agu, Alhaji Wakil Mohammed and Mr Halima Alfa.
