How Boko Haram Suspects Bombed INEC Office, By Witness

THE Federal High Court, Abuja Division was yesterday told how six persons suspected to be members of the Islamic sect Boko Haram allegedly procured 200 detonators and 55 yards of blasting cables with which they executed acts of terrorism against innocent persons between March 3 and July 20, 2011.Giving evidence in the trial of Shuaibu Abubakar and five others who allegedly bombed the Suleja, Niger State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Chief Investigator of the Special Investigation Panel of the State Security Service (SSS), Mr. James Izi, said the suspects were also trained in weapons handling by one Ibrahim Bashir Madalla who is still at large.He also testified that several mobile phones handsets with which the suspects detonated improvised explosive devices were recovered from them.Under cross-examination, the witness stated that investigations by the SSS revealed that the six accused persons were members of Boko Haram.The six accused persons - Shuaibu Abubakar, Salisu Ahmed, Musa Adam, Umar Babagana, Mohammed Ali and Umar Ibrahim are standing trial for allegedly bombing a political rally in Suleja on March 3, 2011 and also bombing the Suleja Niger state office of INEC on April 8, 2011.They are also accused of murdering three policemen on May23 , 2011 in Bwari, Abuja in addition to bombing the all Christian Fellowship Mission in Suleja, Niger State.With three more witnesses waiting to testify, Justice Bilkisu Aliyu adjourned the trial to November, 23 and 24, 2011 for continuation.
