Monarch calls for continued celebration of festivals

A traditional ruler has said that festivals foster unity and prevent crimes in the country and called for the continued celebration of festivals.The Chairman of Kogi/Lokoja Area Traditional Council and Ohimegye of Igu, Alhaji Abdurazaq Isokoto, said this in Toto, Nasarawa State, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).The monarch spoke on Sunday during Irewha festival of Shaba Abakpa Community of Toto Local Government Area of the state.He said festivals played important role in the development of the society and called on the state government and other stakeholders to support the community to upgrade the festival to meet international standard.'As you can see, this festival will not only unite the Ebira tribe but the various tribes in this community and other Nigerians.'It will also serve as an attraction to both local and foreign visitors for the overall development of the country.'Consistent hosting of festivals among the diverse ethnic groups in the country will not only foster peace and unity but will also prevent social ills among the people, especially youths,' he said.The traditional ruler called on the various ethnic groups to continue to celebrate their various cultural values in order to promote peace and unity among the diverse peoples in the country.
