Court will have the last say ' Sylva

Published by Punch on Sun, 20 Nov 2011

The Governor of Bayelsa State has said he was not perturbed by the refusal of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to obey the court injunction stopping its governorship primary in the state.Rather, he said he would wait and allow the judiciary to make a pronouncement on the matter. The governor, while reacting to the primary held in Yenagoa on Saturday, said he was not bothered with its outcome.Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Doifie Ola, Sylva appealed to the people of the state to remain calm.He said, We are not disturbed with the refusal of the party to obey court order. As a law abiding person, we will wait and allow the judiciary to do its job.We have the hope and belief rightly so, that the judiciary will have the last say on this matter. We are however appealing to our people to keep calm and go about their normal business. It would be recalled that the party on Friday acknowledged the court order, which asked it not to go ahead with the governorship primary in the state. The party, in a preliminary objection suit filed by Sylva, however said the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case.Sylva, in the motion filed through his counsel, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had asked the court to restrain the defendants and their agents from conducting the primary election on November 19 or any other day, pending the determination of the suit.
