Benin Club Celebrates 80 Years Of Sports, Recreation

THE Benin Club, which was formerly known as European Club, is set to celebrate it's 80 years anniversary in grand style.The anniversary started with a health work yesterday and ends with lectures and gala night on the November 24. The lectures will be delivered by former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu and Hakeem Bello Osagie.Chairman of the club, Sam Iredia, said that the club is exclusively involve in sports and recreation events, which consist of tennis, golf, billard, darts, table tennis and the Bus stop sections.Iredia said Benin club over the years has evolved from being a sports club as the premier club in the region to the formost sports and social the 'crme de la crme' of the society.He said: 'In its 80 years history Benin Club has weathered many storms and through it all has built an enduring legacy of rare and uncommon honest leadership founded on strong democratic tenets.'We have also tried in our history to give back to the society and make our contributions to the larger society through the use of our facilities by up coming athletes and professional sports men within and outside the state like Ogbe Hard Court tournaments played in Benin Club, where we hosted international players. The tournament was also graced by the professional Golfers Association, just as cricket matches also hold here'.He said that the club has also undertaken humanitarian ventures by supporting the motherless homes and involved in beautification of the environment as a way of their social responsibility to the larger society.
