Obawole, Maharaji communities commend council, seek more assistance

Published by Tribune on Wed, 31 Dec 2014

Residents of Obawole and Guru Maharaji communities in Fagba area of Agege, Lagos State, have commended authorities of Ifako Ijaiye Local Council Development area for the reconstruction of the major roads in their communities. The residents, like Oliver Twist, also appealed to the council boss to continue to develop other roads in their communities, bemoaning their long years of neglect. Many of the residents, who spoke with Community News expressed surprise and at the same time joy over the reconstruction of the roadsSome of them however, complained about the quality of work on the road and charged the council to improve on future road reconstruction as a way of ensuring durability.A resident, who simply identified himself as Oji, said: 'I never believed that this Obawole Road could ever be tarred. We have lost hope after many pleas to successive governments at the council proved furtile.'He added: 'the road is very strategic because it leads to many places like Ogba, Berger, Pen Cinema, Agege and Ojodu, yet the road has remained untarred for many years.'He further said, 'at least, the reconstruction of the road will save us from the stress that we go through on the road during rainy season and it will also prevent many of us, especially those of us doing business on the roadside from inhaling dust.Another resident, who pleaded anonymity, said, 'let me begin by saying thank you to our chairman but I must express my displeasure at the quality of the road. This is not going to last, I can bet that.'He, however, added 'half loaf is better than none. I will still appeal to the chairman to remember us and do more construction and grading of the roads.'A resident of Guru Maharaji area, while commending the council boss said: 'They started with the road in Obawole and when they completed it and did not immediately move to this area, we had thought that they were not coming back.'But surprisingly, they came back and started work on our road and within a short period, the road was completed.
