Ensure hitch-free polls in 2015, Oyo lawmaker tasks Nigerians

Published by Tribune on Wed, 31 Dec 2014

Minority Leader, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Rafiu Adekunle, has enjoined Nigerians to ensure a crisis- free 2015 general election as part of their New Year resolution. The lawmaker said this in his New Year message to Nigerians. While speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, he contended that it was possible for the country to record a crisis-free poll in 2015, contrary to fears being nursed in some quarters that there would be blood letting all over the federation. The lawmaker, who is representing Saki West, expressed the belief that with prayers by Nigerians, both individually and collectively, the election would go on smoothly and the country would move forward in terms of growth and development.'Let's preach and pray for a crisis free 2015 general election both in the churches and mosques. We all belong to the same family and worship the same God but in different ways,' he said. The minority leader, who predicted better life for Nigerians in 2015, however, implored the dreaded Boko Haram sect to sheath their swords and embrace dialogue for continuous peace in all parts of the country.Adekunle contended that it was high time the sect did this as, according to him, nothing could be achieved through violence or destabilisation. He enjoined the sect to see Nigeria as essentially their country which they must help build together and not destroy, declaring that Nigeria belonged to everybody as 'we all have no where to run to.'The lawmaker, therefore, prayed for the souls of the victims of Boko Haram, saying that, 'May the souls of the departed ones rest perfectly in the bosom of God.
