Winners emerge in mobile applications competition

Three winners have emerged at the 2011 African Mobile Applications event that was held between August and October this year.AMA is an initiative by a group of Information Communication and Technology companies and professionals working together to maximise opportunities in mobile applications for socio-economic development in AfricaAccording to a statement by the AMA Board, the three winners of the competition, Mr. Erhunsee Aideyan, Mr. Oladipo Olasemo and Mr. Michael Ibikebina received cash prizes of N750, 000, N500, 000 and N250, 000 respectively.The statement added that the winners in addition to the prizes would have their works reviewed by leading industry professionals.According to the statement, the initiative is driven by a partnership of IT companies, facilitated by ROAR Professional Services which include Arius Nigeria, Cellupay, Integrated Information Systems, Sulphurtel, MCR Limited, Safari Telecoms Bluechip Technologies and many others.The statement said, "Our strategic objectives via this project are to discover gifted developers, nurture them and harness their intellectual capital for the good of the society. In the long term, we seek to encourage interaction among developers and also to engage them by continually challenging them to evolve solutions to challenges that are peculiar to the African socio-economic environment."The competition was held between August 15 and October 15. During the competition period, mobile application developers submitted entries giving information about their applications. An international panel of qualified judges reviewed these entries and selected a group of finalists based on the following criteriarelevance to the local environment, creativity and ingenuity, and marketability and business prospect."
