Agege residents decry activities of telecom firms

Residents ofMoshalashiAlhaja in Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State have called on the state government to coordinate the activities of communication companies laying cables and pipes across major roads in the state.Speaking to Community News in Agege recently, a community leader, Jimoh Alabi, lamented that the residents of the area only woke up one day to see some people digging lands on the street, trying to lay cablesHe explained that the residents challenged the people, but they said they got permission from the state government before embarking on the project.Chief Alabi told Community News, that the residents challenged the workers because of past experience when a communication company would dig hole in the street and failed to cover it after their project, thus destroying the road.He advised that government should always keep residents involved in such activities to prevent a situation where contractor would destroy the road and go.Apart from that, he said the activities of most of the contractors often caused problem, especially during the rainy season, as their sand often blocked drainage.To solve the problem, he advised contractors working on the roads to always ensure they repair them.He also said men of the Ministry of Works should always monitor the activities of the contractors to avoid damages to the roads.
