Tiv community in Anambra seeks govt attention

THE Tiv communityin Anambra State,under the aegis of Mzough U Tiv in Anambra state (MUTAS), has sought the assistance of the Benue state government for the welfare of Tiv indigenes living outside the state through the promotion and exhibition of the rich cultural heritage of the people.Speaking after the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the association, the incumbent president, Hon Iorheen David Terlumun, noted that the association would be repositioned to meet the challenges of uniting the Tiv people in the state, adding that the new leadership will recognize and support other affiliated bodies to promote the overall interest of the Tiv people living in the state.He lamented that after nine years of existence as a body, the impact of MUTAS was yet to be felt by Tiv people in Anambra state, assuring that his leadership will make a meaningful difference, 'I have decided to aspire for the position of the president of this great association in order to effect the necessary changes that will resolve the lingering challenges faced by Tiv people in Anambra state'.Terlumun charged Tiv indigenes to identify with the association as a rallying point that will secure the interest and aspirations of members in the state, noting that collectively, they can tackle the problems confronting members.Also speaking, Chief Jonathan Aor, commended the people for electing credible hands that will run the affairs of the association in the next two years, urging the new leadership to among other things work towards uniting all Tiv indigenes in the state by keeping a functional database of members, which will contain their location and occupation.He charged them to commence the rebuilding of the Tiv Hall that will serve as a meeting point for all the Tivs in Anambra state, stating that the current Hall did not meet with the taste of the time.The highlight of the event was a colourful display by the Tiv traditional dance troupe that held the audience spell bound until the end of the event.
