Ilesa West vigilance group admits new members

RESIDENTS of IlesaWest Local Government area of Osun State have been enjoined to join hands with the new members of the State Vigilance Group in order to curb criminal activities in the area.The State Chairman and Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Ridwan Hussain-Yah Salam, made the call during the admission of about 67 Odua Peoples' Congress (OPC) members from Ilesa West Council area into the State Vigilance Group on Monday.Hussain, at the event, which was held at Ayeso Police Station, Ilesa, charged the new volunteers to see themselves as a watchdog not only to the Police but to the people in their jurisdictions.'You must always be vigilance and ensure safety of lives and property, and you must be working hand-in-hand with the police as you cannot operate alone without their consent. You must always carry the police along in your day-to-day activities to ensure peace in your domain, while you must not take the law into your hands,' Hussain added.The Vigilance boss added further, 'If you know you are a criminal and you want to hide under the Vigilance Group to enable you achieve your aims, please, find your way out now because if you are caught, you would be dealt with according to the law.'Also speaking at the event, the Police Area Commander for Ijesha area, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kayode Tuner, congratulated the people that willingly volunteered to become members of the Vigilance Group for the protection of the people and their property in Ilesa West Council area.The police officer warned that members of the group should not see themselves as police officers 'as they are not one', but that they should work in collaboration with the police.'You must be law abiding, honest and patriotic at all times and you should not take the laws into your hands,' he warned.The Area Commander, while commending the coordinator of the group, Alhaji Ridwan Hussain-Yah Salam, for his efforts, enjoined the people of the council area to always give useful information to the Police and also join hands with them.Speaking with Community News at the event, one of the new volunteered members, Adekanmi Oluwasayo, who was in a joyous mood, promised not to let both the police and the vigilancee group down.
