No free tops for me, no short for me' just long skirts

Published by Guardian on Mon, 21 Nov 2011

Mercy Suess is the founder of FrauSuss Children Empowerment Foundation (FSCEF), a non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation. The Ikot-Akpan Udo Kingdom princess in Oruk-Anam, Akwa Ibom State is passionate about children, which in fact led FSCEF' dedicated to encouraging youths to live their dreams. The airhostess and fashion designer tells DANIEL ANAZIA what fashion means to her. What is your definition of fashion'It's something that reflects your personality, signature, interest and character. It is the totality of your person as well as something you love and feel good in. Uniqueness of your style When dressing for events, I put into consideration my mood, body shape and the event itself. I put on things that go with my nature and also make me comfortable. From my childhoodI have always had it in mind that what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well, so, looking good to me is a serious business. Favourite colourI love bright and beautiful colours, but more fascinated by lemon and blue. They are soothing and not loud; they look calm and appealing. Favourite piece of clothingIt's a multi-purpose short gown I designed by myself and made with ankara. It's blue with a touch of brown and gold. I love the dress, it's beautiful and I can wear it all week long.Favourite designerI love pieces from Jennifer Lopez (JLO) Collection while for bags, I go for Louis Voutton. But generally, I wear anything that is good and fitting. Nigeria designers are doing very well. Most expensive item ever bought and the valuePresently, it's my car, an SUV; but on the side of fashion, it's my jewelry. For the cost, I can't remember. What would you not be caught wearing'You can't catch me in a-three-quarter skirt with a free top. My skirts are always above my knee or completely long to the floor. What do you consider as fashion faux pax'Wearing something that is not suitable or fitting to your body. Some ladies wear pieces that conspicuously expose their lower backside, which is disgusting. Fashion is all about understanding what suits and fits your physique. I really don't like guys that sag their trousers, showing off their dirty boxer. What are the must-haves in your wardrobe this season'Handbags ' red, white and black. They are the three colours I'm in a mood with. How often do you improve on your wardrobe'Constantly, whenever I make clothes for the kids in the orphanage, I make one for myself. Secret of your good lookI use Johnson baby oil and take a lot of fruits, especially watermelon. Favourite foodIt is a German sausage ' Bockwurst; it's eaten with white bread. Whenever I'm in Germany, I always go for it. Turn on Integrity, humility and honesty. I like people whose no is no and yes is yes. Turn off I hate people who live fake live; people who are manipulative and not trustworthy. What is sexy in men and women'The confidence and carriage that individual exudes. The way he or she walks, smiles and talks. You could have everything, but without attitude you don't catch my fancy. Choice travel /holiday destinationI love going to resorts in Tanzania. It is a beautiful place; the ambience of the beach, the candles that light up the walkway at night from the huts to the beachfront are alluring. The current of the beach is not strong, so, you could stay there even at night. Craziest thing ever doneI'm not an adventurous person, but I will say I love fun. So, the craziest thing I have ever done is wearing a hot bump shot and giving my husband a sexy dance at a club.
