Teenager in court for car theft

The police on Monday arraigned 19-year-old Sheu Popoola, before an Ikeja Magistrates Court, Lagos, for allegedly robbing Mr. Adeji Anthony of his Toyota Camry car.Popoola, arraigned on two counts of armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms was alleged to have committed the offence on October 23, 2011 along with others said to be at large.Shortly after the arraignment, Magistrate Olufemi Isaac ordered the accused to be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum Prison pending the hearing of his bail application.The accused and the others allegedly carried out the robbery operation at about 1pm on the said day at Godwin Omonuwa Street, Isolo, Lagos.The members of the said gang, including Popoola, were said to be armed with locally-made pistol and other weapons during the robbery operation.Prosecutor Barth Nwakeye alleged that Popoola along with others snatched Anthonys car and also took away the victims three Nokia phones.The prosecution said the car was valued at about N900,000 and the three phones worth N100,000.The alleged offences of armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms were said to be contrary to Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap 318, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation 1990 as amended.The matter was adjourned until December 21.
