UNIZIK laments state of facilities at induction

Published by Punch on Tue, 22 Nov 2011

The 18 pioneer Pharmacy graduates of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka were inducted into the pharmacy profession on Monday. At the ceremony at Agulu, near Awka where the Faculty of Pharmacy is located, the Registrar of the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, Mr. Ahmed Mora, urged the new pharmacists to live up to the tenets of their calling. The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. Charles Esimone, said the faculty had collaborated with domestic and foreign universities to boost its academic development. He lamented that the students of the faculty had been finding it difficult to get internship placements."Without the internship, they cannot be fully registered as pharmacists. And any single day spent without officially commencing the internship would indirectly negate all the efforts we have been making to see to it that these students graduate," Esimone said.He added that the faculty was seriously in need of office accommodation, Internet connection, student hostels, landscaping of the premises and employment of more staff to meet the requirements of the National Universities Commission and the PCN.At the induction were the Director General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Odumodu; the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Boniface Egboka; and a former National Vice- President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Ifeanyi Okoye.
