Olympics ticket is our priority - Ajiboye

Published by Tribune on Tue, 22 Nov 2011

DREAM Team goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye has assured Nigerians that the main aim of the U-23 side in the CAF Championship is to secure one of the slot for next year's London 2012 Olympics. The U-17 winning keeper said that the priority of the Nigerian Under23 is to book a place at next year's Olympic soccer event in London.'The hope of the whole country now rests on us, and that is a big burden to carry after the senior team failed to qualify for the Nations Cup next year. We will give our best at the championship in Morocco but there is one thing I cannot guarantee right now. It will be difficult to say we will win the title.'We don't want to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure by saying we want to win the title. But winning a ticket to the Olympic Games will be a very good gift for our fans and an opportunity to have at least a team to watch next year,' Ajiboye said. The former Wikki Tourists' keeper further said he is confident in the current crop of players despite some key players unable to make the team due to club commitments.'This team has got very good players, and we have had one of the best preparations going for the tournament and I believe we will do well,' he said.Ahead of their opening game against Morocco on November 26, Ajiboye pointed out that it is imperative for Austin Eguavoen's men to start on a winning note.
