Ivory Coast named hosts of Afrobasket 2013

The Executive Committee of FIBA Africa Executive Committee has named Ivory Coast as the hosts for the 2013 Africa Mens Basketball Championship also called AfroBasket 2013. The national federations of Rwanda, Tunisia and Ivory Coast competed for the hosting right for the 27th edition of the continents biggest basketball event.THE PUNCH learnt that the bidding process lasted through the last six months before the committee made the announcement on Monday. The 2013 AfroBasket will take place from the end of August through the first week of September in Abidjan with 16 teams participating. By the details from Abidjan, two venues will be used. They are the Palais des Sports in Treichville area which has the capacity to take 3,000 places and currently under rehabilitation. The Ivorian federation say it will take delivery by the end of December 2011. The second venue is the 8,000 sitting arena planned to be completed by January 2012.
