Published by Tribune on Wed, 23 Nov 2011

That Nigerianslove their countrypassionately was admirably displayed at the last World Travel Market heldat Excel, London, as many Nigerians joinedthe Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) in selling the tourism potential of the country. One of responsible Nigerians who believed that the task of shoring up the image of Nigeria is a collective effort which must be achieved at any reasonable cost is Olufunke Fasanya, CEO, Spas and Tours Travel Consultant.Tribune Tourism Magazine was impressed meeting a dazzling lady of intelligence and affectionate aura softly telling a group of Americans travel sellers at their stand the reasons why they should package tours to Nigeria. The Americans, who must have been depressed by some of the negative postings about Nigeria on the internet and reports in the media, listened with rap attention to this lady when she was reeling out to them the huge tourism potentialities of Nigeria.'Most of these negative reports were written out of ignorance and a calculated attempt at preventing Nigeria from tapping from the deluge of investors looking for where to invest their idle funds,' she said.Olufunke pointed out: 'You know what life is in New York, in Chicago, Miami the so called crimes in Nigeria as a whole are not up to a quarter of what you have in a state in the US.'And it will be interest you to know that despite all these, many Europeans still flock to Nigeria in droves, doing their businesses while others rely on these ill- motivated reports and travel advises to keep themselves off a veritable business country.'She called on all Nigerians to see themselves as the nation's ambassadors, urging that 'We must at all times tell the world the positives inherent in Nigerians and Nigeria. Americans will always defend America no matter what, hence the citizens and the country earn respect at the international fora.'Olufunke, who is based in London, said ' I love my country and I am on my way home to set up a first class spas and tourism parlour aimed pointedly at selling Nigeria and shoring up its image.
