PDP needs self-examination - OBJ

Published by Tribune on Wed, 23 Nov 2011

FORMER president,Chief OlusegunObasanjo, has said that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the country needs to embark on a critical self re-examination in order for the party to remain relevant in the polity. He made this remark in Ibadan on Tuesday while addressing party faithful who gathered to witness a programme organised by former chairman, Ibadan North-East Local Government Area, Honourable Gbenga Adewusi, to mark the 90th birthday of his mother, Madam Abigael Adewusi.Expressing his joy in seeing many PDP members at the event, Obasanjo said that all necessary amendments should be made across all communities to reposition the party."I am particularly happy to see here today men and women who are the pillars of PDP in Oyo State, South-West and in Nigeria as a whole," he said.Singling out a former PDP BoT member, Alhaji Yekeen Adeojo, for apology, Obasanjo appealed to him and other party members who might be aggrieved and felt frustrated by the party leadership.Appealing to Adeojo to eschew his anger and disappointment, he said: "Some of us may feel frustrated, disenchanted and discouraged but God is always with those who are patient."What the PDP needs in Oyo State, the South-West and nationally now is a re-examination of the position of the party in each community and make amends where it should be made."Nobody should consider himself as being above the party. If we must make PDP relevant, beyond being a mere winning party, everybody must be ready to work.Adeojo, who spoke briefly with newsmen before taking his leave, said he was satisfied with what Obasanjo said.Maintaining that he brought PDP to Oyo State, he said that he would not, for any reason, abandon the party for any other political party.former deputy governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, General Raji Rasak and a former secretary to Oyo State Government, Chief Dele Adigun.Among others were also Dr Saka Balogun, former Chief of Staff to former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Chief (Mrs Abosede Adedibu), former Oyo SUBEB chairman, Professor Soji Adejumo and former PDP Women Leader in the state, Chief (Mrs) Christiana Babalola.
