Ondo to institute award for clean markets

Ondo State government has saidit would institute laurels and awards for the Caring Heart Markets built across the state for traders to instill discipline among them.The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Igbekele Daodu, said the benchmark for the award would be on neatness, peaceful co-existence among others.Speaking at a two-day workshop for managers of the markets in Akure, he said the construction of functional modern markets in cities and towns across the state had proved to be a laudable and highly effective urban development strategy by the government.The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Aderotimi Adelola, said the programme was packaged with a view to ensuring proper management and maintenance of the Caring Heart Markets.According to him, the workshop would enable them comprehend the details of their schedule in order to discharge their responsibilities effectively.He said market development had been neglected for so long by the successive administrations, regretting that many traders were exposed to accident, sun and rain.While speaking on security, the SSG said government would not leave any stone unturned in providing adequate security so as to protect goods and property at all time.Adelola, who urged the market managers to always be alive to their responsibilities, said they are expected to be good representatives of the government.The SSG advised them to give priority to the maintenance of the markets, just as government would not fold its arms and allow people to vandalize facilities in the markets.
