Babura LG distributes uniforms to students

Babura local government Area ofJigawa State, in an effort to complement the state government in its policy of free education in the state, has procured and distributed free two sets of school uniforms to over 33,000 pupils of both primary and junior secondary schools in the area.Distributing the uniforms at the residence of the district head of Babura, the council chairman, Alhaji Aminu Ahmed, said the gesture was part of his council's resolve to complement government's efforts in the revival of the education sector, adding that it would assist parents, especially the underprivileged, towards encouraging them to send their children to school.Alhaji Ahmed said the council had a total of 96 primary and 11 junior secondary schools across the 11 wards, with a total number of 33,000 pupils studying in the schools, adding that the council had set up 12 sectional heads for the distribution of the school's uniforms.He said it had become imperative for the council to emulate policy that would bring rapid development in the sector, as the state government, under Governor Sule Lamido, was working to revamp the lost glory of education.He stated further that no government had ever shown interest in the development of the education sector in the last 17 years since the state was created like the current administration of Governor Lamido, while pledging to continue with more laudable initiatives for the revival of education sector in the area.Speaking also, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology said the government was aware of the support and assistance given to education by the council since it came on board, adding that the distribution of uniforms and erection of fence in boarding and day secondary schools were among the projects undertaken by the council.The commissioner was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Mikailu Abdullahi, who also commended the council's chairman for the initiative, describing it as first of its kind.
