NTDC'S TOURISM PAVILION

THE coincidence was ironic in a superlativeway. The Nigerian Tourism DevelopmentCorporation (NTDC) displayed the photograph of its pavilion at the recent world Travel Market (WTM) in London across the pages of several print media in the country. Over the pavillion, was a banner with a loud statement which proclaimed that 'Tourism is Life.'CERTAINLY, it was a brilliant copy to advertise the potential of Nigeria's tourism, but where is that tourist or investor who will ignore the more potent and strident message of the Boko Haram sect, which has made nonsense of the NTDC's enthusiastic campaign with its bombings and mindless killings'THERE can hardly be any doubt that Nigeria is a great nation with beautiful people, but its tourism potential can only be enhanced and endorsed by an equally effective security network that can assure tourists and investors of the safety of their life and property.THE warning from the more credible Western media of more terrorist attacks is even more damaging. The pavillion, beautiful as it was, was also an advertisement of an essentially defective product. It was counter-productive. Rather than lure, with the thought of the USA embassy warning at the back of their minds, it must have dissuaded the tourists and investors!
