Super Bowl 2015: Predictions and Odds for NFL Championship

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 07 Jan 2015

The 2015 NFL playoffs have been exciting thus far, but many fans have already turned their attention to the Super Bowl and the chatter about which teams have the best chance to win in the championship game.Flashy teams like the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots have drawn serious hype, but fundamentally successful franchises like the Seattle Seahawks are built for success during the postseason stretch. Here are the latest odds to be the eventual 2015 Super Bowl winner, predicted winners in the AFC and NFC Divisional Round and the safest bet.*Betting information via OddsShark.com (as of Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. ET).Safest Super Bowl Bet: Seattle SeahawksThe safest bet of any of the remaining teams in the playoffs for a run to a Super Bowl title is the Seattle Seahawks at 2-1 odds. The defending champions will be tough to beat in 2015.On the offensive side of the ball, Seattle wont throw the ball over the field like other teams, like New England, Green Bay or Denver, but the Seahawks have a commitment to the rushing attack, led by veteran Marshawn Lynch.Seattle averaged 172.6 rushing yards per game this season and finished first in the league in that category. Conversely, the Seahawks finished the season 27th in pass yards per game.As well as the team has played this season, earning a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs could be two factors that help Seattle prepare for another run at the Super Bowl. When asked about the importance of the first-round bye this season, Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman told Tim Booth of The Associated Press, via TheOlympian.com:Last year it was a little different only because we had a week later in the season. I think we had a bye Week 12 or Week 13. And this year we had it maybe Week 5. That makes for a very, very, very long season. This one, I guess we needed it more, it helps us more this time around. Guys are banged up. Guys need a break on their bodies. I think we understood the sense of urgency throughout the season that we would need this. That's why we fought so hard those last couple of games. We want to win them regardless, but we recognized as a team what we needed to get to, to get that rest we needed. The week to rest and recover will be good for the mental and physical health of the Seahawks, but after ESPN Radio host Jim Moore shared the following stats, Seattle may want to keep the momentum rolling:The real advantage the Seahawks have over every team they will face in the playoffs is their defensive unit. After the team finished the season first against the pass (allowing 185.6 yards per game) and third against the run (allowing 81.5 yards per game), there are few offensive units that can solve Seattles defensive riddle. Dont believe me' Ask Peyton Manning and the Broncos after last years Super Bowl. The Seahawks host a beatable Carolina Panthers team in the divisional round and would square off against either the Dallas Cowboys or Green Bay Packers in the conference championship if they were to advance. With an impressive second half to the regular season, Seattle is the hottest team in the league and the safest bet for a 2015 Super Bowl champion.*Stats via NFL.com.
