Govt lauds NIMET for rainfall forecast

THE Federal Government yesterday commended the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMET) for its aptness in the 2011 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) Performance.Expressing her satisfaction at a one-day stakeholders meeting on the evaluation of the 2011 SRP in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Aviation, Anne Ene-Ita,said that the minister of Aviation was also pleased with its performance.She said that their aptness had been a veritable tool for socio-economic planning and advisories to all sectors of the economy for sustainable development.Ene-Ita maintained that the timely and precise prediction saved Nigerians millions of naira in terms of goods and services and lives that would have been lost to extreme weather events.She, however, reiterated the ministry's support to the agency to provide it with the enabling environment to actualise the transformation agenda.
