Nigeria improves on FIFA rankings

NIGERIA moved a step upward in the latest FIFA ranking released by the world's football governing body yesterday.Ranked 44th in October, the two-time Africa Cup of Nations champions reclaimed the 43rd position which it occupied in September and this is as a result of the Super Eagles performance in its last two international friendly matches played.The Eagles, under new coach Stephen Keshi, drew 0-0 with Botswana in Benin City and defeated Zambia 2-0 three days later in Kaduna.Ivory Coast remains the top African team in the latest rating as the Elephants moved three places to climb to the 16th position in the world while Ghana is ranked 29th.The Ivorian Elephants are also top of the African rankings, ahead of Ghana's Black Stars and the Desert Foxes of Algeria.Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroun, South Africa, Cape Verde and Tunisia complete the top 10 sides on the continent.World and European king, Spain maintains its lead in the global rankings, despite a recent friendly loss to England which moved up to fifth in the world following their friendly victories over Spain and Sweden.
