Kogi gov poll: PDP is stockpiling arms, ammunition 'ACN 'Allegation baseless, unfounded 'PDP

Published by Tribune on Thu, 24 Nov 2011

AS the people of KogiState prepare for theforthcoming governorship election, the issue of alleged stocking of arms and ammunition has become a subject in the state, as the leading political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) take centre stage. However the Wada/Awoniyi campaign organisation has debunked allegations that the PDP was stocking arms for the governorship election.A press statement issued by the group's spokesman, Mr Mike Abu, in Lokoja, on Wednesday, said the allegation by the ACN was unfounded and baseless, while he called on the electorate to disregard the claim.According to him, the group was surprised that people who were regarded as statesmen could engage in falsehood to cause confusion in a state they wanted to govern. He added that the widely circulated lies on the pages of newspapers, all in the name of politics, had only shown the level of moral decadence in Kogi State. However, Honourable Dino Melaye of the ACN in the state has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Hafiz Ringim, to investigate those that were stocking weapons for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.Addressing newsmen in Lokoja, he alleged that members of the PDP wanted to rig the election by buying police uniform and recruiting youths as thugs for the election. He warned that ACN would resist PDP with the power of vote, as the people of the state were ready to vote out PDP from government in the state. He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to allow itself to subvert the wishes of the people of the state.Meanwhile, the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) has adopted the candidate of the ACN, Prince Abubakar Audu, as its candidate for the December 3 election.Addressing a press conference in Lokoja, on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the group, Mr Korede Omolayo, said Prince Audu had what it took to win the election, because of his track record and performance. He said Kogi had had a retarded growth within the last one year and needed to be salvaged.
