Five firms bid for Lagos-Badagry Expressway expansion

Five companies have indicated interest in handling the second phase of the expansion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.They are Messers Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Moreno-Marina-Lagoon Plc, Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company Nigeria Limited, Salini Nigeria Limited and CGGC Global Projects Nigeria Limited.The bids, which were opened on Thursday at the Lagos State Government Secretariat complex, Alausa, in the presence of the representatives of the companies, was in compliance with international best practices and part of the process stated in the call for bids.Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, said the second phase of the project would cover Lot 2A covering Mazamaza to Okokomaiko.The commissioner explained that government had rescheduled the tranches to have lots 2A and 2B covering Mazamza to Okokomaiko and Okokomaiko to Agbara respectively.He said the bids would be evaluated by the Tenders Board, which would then make its recommendation to the state Executive Council and the Governor for further deliberation and award.The state government commenced the expansion of the road as a strategic development that will open the West African market to Nigerian businesses and also ensure the take off of the axis as a tourism corridor.
