Published by Punch on Sat, 26 Nov 2011

Governor Ibikunle Amosun vowed on Friday to win the battle to end the menace of armed robbery in the state. The governor made the pledge during an inspection of two commercial banks in Sabo-Sagamu that were attacked by armed robbers on Thursday.Amosun noted that the Sagamu incident was the third to occur in the state and he vowed to make Ogun too hot for robbers and other criminals. The governor said, "Appropriate steps were being taken to put an end to this development."Amosun praised the gallantry of men of the Vigilante Service of Ogun State, as well as the Nigeria Police and declared that the state would soon take delivery of highly sophisticated equipment to help security agencies in their fight against crime. He said the state needed about 120 Hilux vans, as well as 30 Armoured Personnel Carriers, which would be positioned in strategic areas in the state in order to effectively secure the state from armed robbers. He said, "We must do the needful and we all know that security is important for any meaningful development to take place. Our goal of industrialising the state cannot be realised in an atmosphere of insecurity. We have to win this battle and we will win it."Amosun solicited the cooperation of the people in exposing the hideouts of criminals, whom he described as ordinary mortals and not ghosts. The governor also visited the family of Alhaji Kareem Amusa, a member of the vigilante service, who was killed by the bandits.
