There's More To The Holy Spirit Than Speaking In Tongues, Says Ijiwade

Published by Guardian on Sun, 27 Nov 2011

Gospel Power Christ Apostolic Church (Mount of Miracle) recently held its five-day Power Packed Deliverance Vigil Prayer with the theme: 'Deliverance from the spirit of ancient battle'. The General Overseer, Pastor Felix Oluwagbemiga Ijiwade, spoke to ISAAC TAIWO on the success of the event and signs that a Christian has the Holy Spirit, among others.End Time churchesTrue churches, in this end time, are known by their total dependence on the Holy Spirit. I have just written a Sunday school booklet entitled: 'Precious Heritage'. It talks extensively about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit founded His Church and any church operating outside His authority or failing to uplift Jesus Christ is not a true church.Evidence of the Holy SpiritAgain, with reference to my book, which enlightens us on signs to watch for in the life of those who profess to have the Holy Spirit, the scripture tells us that apart from speaking in tongues, anyone filled with the Holy Spirit cannot steal or wear any kind of dress that does not glorify God among other vices.Fruits of the Spirit declare the true identity of one who says he has the Holy Spirit. Then, when a Spirit-filled person prophesies, it must come to pass though care should be taken because the devil also has counterfeits.According to Galatians 5:22, the fruits of the Spirit include love, peace and longsuffering among others. The Holy Spirit gives power, gifts and manifests fruits.Significance of signs and wondersWe cannot relegate signs and wonders in Christ's Church. Jesus Christ, who started His Church, laid the foundation on signs and wonders. Though some people lay emphasis on this more than salvation, which is wrong, the position of signs and wonders is unquestionable because these bring sinners to be fed with the Word of God and the message of salvation. The gospel shows sinners the way to salvation and this is where we stand as a church. We also do this through our Sunday school publication, which offers teachings, and we publish for churches that do not have one, especially those whose overseers are too busy to write. For churches that can obtain up to 100 copies, we reflect the names of those on the booklet, and this is done every six months, that is January to June and July to December of every year.It is another method of bringing Christians to maturity in Christ with sound teachings of the Word of God. This has been on for the past two years.I am happy, and we thank God for what He has been doing in the life of users of this book. Recently, a pastor called me from Ibadan and expressed gratitude to God for the exposition of the Word of God through the book. There is a church that is using it for its youth Sunday school classes. There is a lot in the book for youths to learn. This includes those from age 14 upwards. Right now, about 10 Churches have adopted the book for their Sunday school teaching and we are still getting calls from other interested churches in line with our hope of extending the book beyond the shores of Nigeria. Of course, the information about the book is already on the Internet. We are confident that if any user should read and follow the contents, he or she would receive guidance to make heaven.Purpose of five-day revivalWe embarked on this revival because we realised that this spirit contends with a lot of people. Many people only know what is happening to them at the present but are ignorant of what led to that particular problem. So, the revival was held to open people's eyes to know that every problem has a foundation.TestimoniesThe Lord set free many captives. This included those who were looking for the fruit of the womb. The man of God, Evangelist Aworinde, who was invited, was mightily used of God. God opened doors of blessing for a lot of people. How often is the revival held'It is held on the first week of every month and we invite great men of God. We call it: 'Success is mine solution hour'. We start on Sunday and end on Friday every month. We also have another programme called: 'Miracle Night', which comes up every third Friday of the month. Prayer is always going on here every time, because this is a praying church. We also thank God for progress and promotions taking place in the life of our members. Students are having admissions, marriages taking place and members putting up their personal buildings.InspirationWithout the power of God backing up the writer, such book cannot be written. Though research is made through commentaries and the Internet, among others, absolute dependence on the Holy Spirit for inspiration was ultimate.Message to ChristiansChristians should live with the awareness that there is life after this world, with the mind of making heaven as their goal.Nigerians should know that every nation is passing through problems, which call for prayers for perseverance. We should also pray for our leaders to have concern for other fellow citizens in the nation and not just think of themselves and their families. They should also be prayed for to see themselves as servants of every Nigerian who will give account to God for all they do. The Bible should also be embraced as total Word of God as the only light that will guide us to heaven.BackgroundI was at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Seminary, Ile-Ife where I obtained Certificate in Theology. Later, I proceeded to Foursquare Life Theological Seminary, Ikorodu for my Diploma, after which I went to Christian Bible College, Mile 2 Express Road, Lagos, for my first degree. I later went to Lagos State University (LASU) where I did Diploma in Religious Studies, and I am preparing for my degree programme in the same institution.
