Nine qualifiers emerge for GUS 8

Published by Nigerian Compass on Sun, 27 Nov 2011

With the automatic qualification of Olanrewaju Alawoki, Sunday Gyang and Fejiro Ejogbamu from Batch C, the nine qualifiers for the on-going Gulder Ultimate Search's Contest of Champions have emerged. The trio secured their qualification after the last of the group tasks which was keenly contested. They will be joining six others; Kelvin Durst, Promise Ojiegbe and Anastasia Azike from Batch A, and Christopher Okagbue, Anthony Igwe and Tony Horsfall from Batch B.Indeed, Olanrewaju Alawoki, winner of Batch B's last two tasks, showed that he could be one of the strong contenders as the competition progresses. He posted strong performances in the last two tasks to etch his name among the qualifiers. As reward for winning the last task, he was fitted with a special leopard skin sash.As for Fejiro Ejogbamu and Sunday Gyang, the two other qualifiers from the batch, their qualification did not come easy. Fejiro Ejogbamu almost missed out on qualification as he found the key to unlock a box very late. Sunday Gyang won the first two tasks given to batch C but seemed to slacken towards the closing stages. He was only lucky to scale through to the next round. For Ulunma Ekwuru and Kesiena Egone, both evicted from batch C, it was a painful end to their foray in the Gulder Ultimate Search. Both were the last two females to be evicted from Batch C. While Kesiena was the last lady to be evicted in the fifth task, Ulunma was evicted in the fourth. The last slot for the Contest of Champions is still up for grabs. The task will pitch Geraldine Obi, voted back in from Batch A, against Theresa Egbu, the viewer's choice from Batch B, and a yet to be determined contestant, evicted from Batch C.The earlier evicted contestants from Batch C are: Ebhonhon Lilian, Egone Olivia Kesiena, Udodi Chimaobim, Oniovosa Efe, Ihongbe Patience Omoyeme, Okoroafor Ezeoba and Ekwuru Ulunma.Indeed, it has been an exciting journey thus far in the reality show. This year's edition featured 30 contenders instead of the usual 12. The contenders were introduced into the jungle in batches of 10 with three individuals emerging from each of the batches. The final 10 will compete for who will become the Ultimate Hero. Also up for grabs is the Last Girl Standing award which will go to the best female contender in the competition.
