Oyo dep gov lauds World Bank over CSDP

Oyo State Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, has lauded the initiative of the World Bank on its effort in increasing access of poor people to improved social and infrastructure services through Community and Social Development Projects(CSDP).Speaking recently at a one-day stakeholders meeting on Community and Social Development Project which was held at the Supreme Management Resource Centre, new Bodija, Ibadan, Chief Adeyemo noted that the initiative was to support the enpowerment of communities and local government authorities for the reduction of poverty in the state.According to him, 'the CSPD approach will enchance decentralisation of governance, transparency and accountability in sustainable development which are the key policy thrust of this administration in core areas of transformation and respositioning', thanking the Federal Government for considering Oyo State as one of the beneficiaries and providing a level-playing ground for states to participate.The deputy governor noted that the success of the development projects would be measured not only by the amount of infrastructural facilities put in place, but by those who will benefit from the intervention in terms of development of human capital, income generation and reduction of poverty, urging chairmen of local governments to maintain and sustain the projects to improve the living conditions of their people at grass roots.In his address, the General Manager, Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency, Mr Busari Olalekan Jelili, who stated that 393 development projects had been executed with 105 beneficiary communities, added that the CSDP was a poverty intervention project targeted at both rural and urban communities in the state.According to him, the commitment of the state government to provide more welfare programmes culminated in the transition of Local Enpowerment and Environmental Management Project(LEEMP) to CSDP backed by law, as a scaled-up intervention built on the principle of Community Driven Development(CDD) approach to development.Mr Jelili said the state government financed the project through a credit from the Federal Government in collaboration with the International Development Association(IDA) of the World Bank.
