Ondo to equip police against robbery, others

THE Ondo State government has promised to sustain the prevailing peace and security in the state and would soon take delivery of more sophisticated weapons to further arm the police to combat crime. In a statement issued yesterday in Akure, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said the government would do everything within its power to ensure that the state continued to enjoy appreciable peace and security. While condoling with the families of those who lost their lives in a recent armed robbery attack on a new generation bank in the state capital, Akure, Akinmade commended the security operatives who foiled the robbery attack thereby reducing the rate of casualties. He attributed the success recorded by the security operatives to their promptness in rising to the occasion to the encouragement and support they had been enjoying from Governor Olusegun Mimiko.Akinmade said the fact that the bandits were unable to access the strong room of the bank before the intervention of the police and the military authorities showed that efforts being made by the government in conjunction with relevant security agencies were yielding fruitful results. The Commissioner reiterated Governor Mimiko's determination to ensure a good measure of security in the state as well as his continued support for the security operatives, hence, the disclosure that the government would soon take delivery of some Armoured Personnel Carriers, ordered by the government for effective and efficient crime prevention and control. He recalled that some vehicles and communication gadgets had already been procured by the government.
