Varsities shutdown looms

NIGERIAN universities may from Wednesday experience yet another round of disruption in teaching, research and other activities, as the three non-teaching unions operating in the institutions have vowed to shut them down from that day.The three unions, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) yesterday vowed to shut down the varsities, to protest government refusal to implement the 2009 agreement signed with them. The agreement includes 65-year retirement age for their members and better funding of universities.
