Agbekoya begins cultivation of cash crops

The Agbekoya Farmers Association has commenced work on the cultivation of 45,000 hectares of land for the planting of crops in nine states in the country.The crops are cassava, rice, sorghum, yam and other cash crops.This was contained in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday by the associations National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olatunji Bamidele, at the end of the congresses of the group in four states of the South West during which the state coordinators and other state executives were elected.Bamidele quoted the associations President-General, Chief Kamorudeen Okikiola, as saying that plans were being concluded on ploughing, rigging and planting in the six states.He called on the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, to expedite action in making available the financial and infrastructural supports to the group.He said the association was ready to support the Federal Government to succeed in its efforts to transform the agricultural sector and to stop the importation of food.According to the statement, Col. Clauschus Ajala(retd) was elected Lagos State Coordinator of the group.Chief Akinde Adeyemi was elected in Ogun State; Mr. Wale Idowu for Osun State and Chief Wole Sanwolu was also elected Ogun State Coordinator.Okikiola advised the state coordinators to work hard in order to achieve the desired goal of Agbekoya Agribusiness projects in their states.
