Quadrangular Games kick off

The 21st Quadrangular Games officially commenced on Sunday amidst fanfare at the Lagos Country Club, the host club.The opening ceremony of the games, also known as LCC 2011, began with the passing of the games torch from the last host, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, to the Lagos Country Club. The torch moved through Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, before finally berthing at the LCC.Group Managing Director, UAC Nigeria Plc, Mr Larry Ettah, represented by the companys Executive Director, Joe Dada, declared the games open and commended the Local Organising Committee for introducing a number of innovations to this years edition. The games, which involve four foremost clubs in Lagos, including Ikoyi Club 1938 and Apapa Club, will feature a childrens edition for the first time this year.The annual Quadrangular Games has over the years created an avenue for social and business networking, friendship and sportsmanship among the four clubs in Lagos. It is held on rotational basis among the clubs. The championships will feature tennis, swimming, badminton, snooker, table tennis, chess, taekwondo, scrabble, squash and dart.
