THE debut edition of the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole's Wrestling Championship has been slated to hold on February 10 and 19 next year across the three Senatorial districts in the State.The wrestling championship tagged 'Parade of the Champions' is expected to involve foreign and local wrestlers in the weeklong event while the highlight of the championship will be a ladder contest that will be used to determine the last man standing among the mats men.According to the championship coordinator, Prince Ahmed Olarewaju Mohammed, the tournament would be held in two centres in each of the Senatorial zones in the state from Friday 10 to Sunday 19 February, 2012, adding that arrangements are in top gear to organise the epic event.Prince Mohammed added that Edo State born wrestler, Strong Bone Erukujeje would fight notable Nigerian wrestling giants such as Tony Destroyer, Mr. Sharpman, Mighty Man, Rocky Johnson, Hot Tempo, Super Roscko, Iron Scatter and Nigerian queen of the mats, Lady Bunmi against some of the best wrestlers in the world such as Belgian Robin, "The Bull", United States of America's Giant Jackson and Dynamite Solution.Others are German's Eric Shcharz, Micheal Kovak of Kuwait, Erik Justra of Norway, Masato Tanaka of Japan, Tye Mupepe of Democratic Republic of Congo, Lady Shanna of Portugal and Lady Sweet Saraya of United Kingdom who will be led by World heavyweight champion Chris Bambikiller of Austria.Prince Mohammed, who was the coordinator of the maiden edition of the BRF Wrestling championship, stated that the tournament had received the blessings of Edo State Governor; Comrade Adams Oshiomole just as he announced that the ten belts to be competed for in the championship had been delivered from Australia.'I am happy to inform you that the championship has received the blessings of Governor Oshiomhole whom we all know as a great sports man and we want to use the tournament to send a message across to the youths of this country that victory does not come easy.'It will also interest you to know that ten championship belts which were specially prepared in Australia for the tournament have been received and we are only waiting for the February date to enable our brothers and sisters in Edo State have a real feeling of what professional wrestling is all about,'he explained.Meanwhile,EDO State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Iziegbe Anita Evbuomwan has warned the newly-appointed Chief Coach of Bendel Insurance Football Club, Bright Omokaro not to take gratification from any quarters as he strives to lead Insurance back to the Premiership cadre.Speaking at the unveiling of Omokaro, as the new Chief Coach of Bendel Insurance in Benin City, Hon Evbuomwan noted that the present state of Bendel Insurance was a source of worry to the people of Edo state, stressing that the team needs to return to its glorious position as the flagship of Nigeria Football.According to the Commissioner, 'neither the Ministry nor the Management Committee will interfere in the technicalities of Bright Omokaro's job as he is expected to use his professional expertise to build a formidable team that will make Edo people proud again'.'The government of Adams Oshiomhole does not engage in illegalities, neither do we believe in bribe taking as such, Coach Omokaro should ensure that all such practices are completely discouraged,' he added.He must ensure that only the best players are recruited for the team, and the terms of contract must be adhered to'. Hon Evbuomwan warned.While commending the Management Committee, Bendel Insurance Football Club for shelving their personal interests for the growth of the Club, the Commissioner stated that the screening process that saw Mr. Omokaro as eventual Chief Coach was transparent and devoid of bias and sentiments.Also speaking, the Functional Chairman, Bendel Insurance Football Club, Mr. Elbert Ode appealed to all football fans to give the new Coach the necessary support to revive Insurance, disclosing that the former Coaches will be retained as assistants to Bright Omokaro, and they must take instructions from the Chief Coach only.Mr. Ode said that the uniqueness of Bendel Insurance lies with its traditional undertone, stressing that Omokaro has the major task of moving the Club forward, as both the Government and Management will not condone inefficiency.In his remarks, the Chief Coach, Mr. Bright Omokaro expressed his unreserved joy for the opportunity given him to redeem Bendel Insurance, noting that as an ex-player of Bendel Insurance, he is very passionate about bringing the team back to its glory days.Commending Governor Adams Oshiomhole for his positive drive to the revival of sports in Edo State, Mr. Bright Omokaro said that the Comrade Governor is the first to appoint an ex-Super Eagles Coach to head Grassroots Football Development Programme, adding that he remains a product of grassroots football.
