Ikorodu community to benefit from BRT

Respite has now come to the people of Ikorodu area of Lagos State as the state Government Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority (LAMATA) has concluded arrangement to extend the services of Bus Rapid Transport System (BRT) to the community.Residents of Ikorodu, a major community in Eastern part of the state have been complaining about acute transportation problem confronting the area.As a way of alleviating the problem of the people, the state government recently decided to extend the BRT service to the area.The new service to Ikorodu, according to Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi, the External Relations Manager of LAMATA, would originate from Oshodi and terminate at Ikorodu. Before now, the BRT operation terminated at Mile 12.He explained that the BRT was designed to alleviate the transportation problems of Lagosians, hence the decision to extend it to Ikorodu.He explained that the project started from Mile 12 to CMS. The BRT system has provided quality, accessible and affordable Mass transit system for residents of Lagos which has subsequently led to poverty reduction, improved standard of living,  sustainable economic growth and pioneered private and public investment partnership in the transport sector.He explained further  that the system had conveyed over 170 million passengers and reduced journey time by public transport between mile 12 and CMS by 30 minutes.
