Imo indigenes in Kano declare two-day mourning for Ojukwu

AS a mark of respect and to appreciate the indelible marks of Ikemba of Nnewi, Chief Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu who died in a London Hospital last Saturday, the leadership of Imo indigenes in Kano have declared a two-day mourning and special prayers in churches for the repose of the soul of the ex-Biafran warlord.According to a statement issued to all town unions under the umbrella of the Imo Indigenes Association, and signed by its President, Chief Chris U. Osuji and made available to the Community News, it described Ojukwu's death as a great loss to the Igbo race, pointing out that he fought for the sustenance of the dignity of the race.Osuji then urged all town unions under Imo Indigenes Association to observe a two-day of mourning, adding that special prayers be organised in churches in honour of the departed leader.The Imo indigenes noted that the Eze Igbo Gburumagbu will ever be remembered by Ndigbo and Nigerians at large for his commitment to the unity of the Igbo race, adding that, his courage to save Ndigbo from marginalisation would never be forgotten in a hurry.Also, in his tribute, Onye Ndundigbo, Igwe J .C Nnadi described Chief Ojukwu as a man of courage, who struggled to liberate his people from the clutches of marginalisation.He described the Ikemba of Nnewi as a man who lived and died in the course of serving his people, pointing out that the history of Ndigbo will not be complete without the mention of the departed Igbo hero.Meanwhile, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Kano state chapter, has commiserated with the President, Imeobi and the entire executive of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide on the death of Ojukwu .A statement signed by Hon. Tobia Micheal Idika, president, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Kano state chapter, described late Ojukwu as a true Igbo leader who fought bravely for the redemption of the Igbo race.
