UP Plc donates N2m to Oyo

The management of University Press Plc, Ibadan, has promised to support the Oyo State Government in its efforts to take the state to greater heights. The management of the press made the pledge on Wednesday when it presented a N2m cheque donation to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State in his office in respect of the August 26 flood disaster in Ibadan, the state capital. In his speech at the occasion, the Chairman of UP Plc, Dr. Lekan Are, said the companys donation would have come earlier but for logistic problems encountered along the line. He explained that the company, rather than present relief materials, decided to make a cash donation, "because we are aware that you will need money to repair the damaged facilities." Are said the donation was made considering the magnitude of the disaster and its implication on the people and government of the state. According to him, such emergency requires the efforts of both the government and private sector. In a letter addressed to the state government dated November 30, 2011 and signed by the Managing Director of UP Plc, Mr. Samuel Kolawole, the company stated, "As part of our contribution to assist your government in the preventive and proactive actions in keeping the lives of people safe, we hereby present to you our cheque for a token of N2m. We have no doubt that this token will be put to good use as it has been demonstrated by your administration."
