Fans back Oyo govt on 3SC, Crown

Published by Tribune on Thu, 01 Dec 2011

THE decision of the Oyo State government to sack the entire management, coaching crew, players and staff of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan and Crown FC of Ogbomoso has received the backing of football fans in the state. The state government had through the state commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dapo Adesina announced the sack of the entire personnel of the two teams following their disappointing performances in the just concluded 2010/2011 season.Expectedly, numerous football followers reacted to the action of the financier of the clubs, with majority of them throwing their weight behind the step taken. In the case of 3SC, most of the fans who Tribunesports gathered at various joints including press stands at different locations in Ibadan were seen discussing the issue.Interestingly, they were unanimous in their reactions as they all gave the state government a pat in the back for going hard on the officials and the players. They argued that the action taken was long overdue stressing that the team having struggled to keep its premier league status needed a total overhaul, hence the decision of the government to sack the entire personnel of the club was the right step in the right direction."How can the government spend so much on a club without getting any positive result in return ' It is a big shame, the management and the players should bow their heads in shame for waiting to be sacked before they find their way out of the team, said Joseph Ajisafe, a baker.Similarly, followers of Crown FC who had for long calleed forr the dissolution of the club's management were said to have welcomed the development and even called on the government to take a step further by probing the management over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the club. The fans, however, charged the government to take prompt action in repositioning the twwo clubs ahead of the new season billed to kick off early next year.
