Reps probe sale of FG landed properties

The House of Representatives, onWednesday, put machinery in motion to probe the sale of Federal Government landed properties and the proceeds from the sales.To this end, the House mandated its Committee on Housing and Habitat to direct the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the sale of government property to furnish it with details of the sale and proceeds accruable from it.The House resolution was sequel to a motion moved by Honourable Abdullahi Dan-Alkali and two others entitled, "sale of Federal Government landed properties and the need to account for the proceeds accruable therein" saying the House must urgently looked into the sale of government houses and verify how much was generated from the sale.Leading debate on the motion, Honourable Alkali noted that the properties sold by government were built with public funds and were supposed to serve public interest and questioned the shoddy ways the properties were sold.He then urged his colleagues to support the motion in order to ensure that all funds from the sale of government properties were accounted for accordingly by those in charge.He stressed further that presently, no Ministry, Department and Agency could "categorically account for the proceeds accruing from the sale of the properties" noting that the decision to sell substantial parts of government properties in 2000 had become a government policy.
