Oba Simeon Olatuyi, the Laba of Akotogbo in Ondo State, has said that the creation of more local government areas will stimulate job creation.Olatuyi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that such a measure would also bring government closer to the people. He said the creation of more local governments in the country would ensure development at the grass roots and thereby improve the living condition of the people. The royal father noted that his domain lacked adequate electricity supply and good roads, emphasising the need for the government to construct roads and open up rural communities for investment.'Roads are very important in any area as they link that area to the outside world. When there are good roads, investors will be encouraged to bring their money and build new projects in the area.'When power is further combined with good roads, that is when electricity is stable, these investors will be encouraged and be rest assured that the most important factor to be considered in most companies is readily available.'Olatuyi said that there were more indigenous and foreign companies in the past in the country than now because there was regular power supply.'There were more foreign companies in Nigeria before than we have now because back then, power, which was a major factor, was readily available and constant unlike today's trend of frequent power outages everywhere.'He, however, noted that the power projects in Irele and Ese-Odo local government areas were ongoing and could be inaugurated in December.'I know that the Akotogbo power project, which will bring power from Irele to Ese-Odo Local Government Area, is ongoing because I monitor it myself; it will be due for inauguration in December.'Another major problem we have is the need for financial assistance from the state government to make our farming techniques modernised.'The royal father said that most of the people in his community were farmers and added that if the government could provide them with mechanised farming inputs, it would go a long way.'If we have a cassava mill at Akotogbo, it will ease the way we dispose our cassava products because we have to transport our cassava to Irele to sell.'When the mill is established, then people will come here to buy instead of having to transport the cassava.
