Group tackles LP over Boroffice

Published by Punch on Fri, 02 Dec 2011

A non-governmental group, Ondo Democratic Crusaders, has said the Senator representing Ondo North at the National Assembly, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, has overwhelming grass roots support, contrary to the submission of the Labour Party that he has no structure.Boroffice, who won the senatorial election on the ticket of the LP, has allegedly dumped the party to enable him to contest the 2012 governorship election in the state on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria. In its reaction, the LP through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Okunjemiruwa, said Boroffices exit from the party would not affect its chances because the lawmaker did not have a structure of his own.But ODEC, in a statement by its coordinator, Mr. Olumide Dada and Secretary, Sola Richards, on Wednesday, described Okunjemiruwas statement as a "distortion of truth."The group argued that it was Boroffices political structure that made Governor Olusegun Mimiko to support his senatorial ambition. The statement reads in part, "It was not for nothing that Boroffice was made Asiwaju of Akokoland by all the traditional rulers in the four local councils that make up the area. As they say, charity begins at home. "Truth must be told that Boroffice, long before he nursed the aspiration of contesting for any position, had been providing basic social infrastructure in many Akoko communities with his life savings."
