Fourth straight win for Olaitan at Ikeja golf tourney

Published by Punch on Sat, 03 Dec 2011

Olaitan Muyideen remains dominant at the Ikeja Golf Club after winning the clubs crowning event of the season. It was the fourth consecutive victory for the 28-year-old, after his first success in 2008. Olaitan recorded 75 and 73 on each of the two days of the championship, opening nine strokes advantage over other opponents. He said he never expected to win with such a wide margin, adding that the challenge he expected did not come from his rivals."I thought Chris Obije would give me a tough fight because of his experience. For now, I think my game has improved and I think I handled my shots with confidence. The swing is more than 75 per cent and that is enough to give you confidence that can make you play well on any course."The handicap one golfer has represented Nigeria in two international events this year and looks forward to the President Cup this month. He said, "I have not played in the championship before but I think I am up for it now. At the end of the Ikeja championship, Jimoh Ogundare came second with nine shot behind the winner while Bidemi Babatunde finished in the third position. There were about two hundred participants at the event and the club captain, Sola Giwa said the success of the competition this season would help to develop golf in Nigeria, saying nurturing of up and coming talents would give better future to the game.
