FG tasks Abia, Cross River boundary committee on integrity

FOLLOWING several years of boundary dispute and need to broker peace, the acting Surveyor-General of the Federation, Barde Jatau has urged the technical committee handling the Abia-Cross River boundary dispute to be forthright in their efforts at creating lasting peace.Speaking at a technical meeting between the two states at the weekend in Abuja, Jatau urged members of the committee to stand on facts, as any actions taken can make or mar the lives of the people in the area.Boundary dispute between Abia and Cross River states dates back 28 years.He expressed hope that the committee would work together to resolve theissues and urged the committee to come out with resolutions that would bring a lasting solution to the dispute.Jatau added that when parties concerned agree on the final position of the boundary, the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation would move in to demarcate the boundaries.In his remarks, the representative of the Director General, National Boundary Commission (NBC), urged them to take a look at the legal instrument in their disposal so as to enable them get the boundary lines determined.
