WORRIED by the high level of moral decadence among Nigerian youths, which is usually caused by desperation for instant wealth, filmmaker Tade Ogidan took a bold step to interpret the many implications of such action in his latest movie titled Family on fire.Featuring notable Nollywood stars such as Segun Arinze, Lanre Hassan, Sola Shobowale, Sola Fosudo, Saheed Balogun and others, the movie, which was premiered recently in the United Kingdom, seeks to expose the rots in family values. The production is a sort of campaign against the desecration of family values that shape the life of an average Nigerian youth.Speaking at a special press screening at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Ikeja, Ogidan, who is known for producing Diamond Ring, Hostages, Dangerous Twins and others, described the movie as a deliberate attempt to promote good family values, which have been neglected in the present day Nigeria.'We live in a society where we all need to worry about the way the young ones are deviating from the norms. There's hunger in the land and everybody is looking for a quick way to wealth. This movie is not about entertainment; the reality of it, is that something like this happens in our society.'Describing Family on fire as an advocacy movie, Ogidan called on all relevant agencies and individuals to contribute to the on-going effort that will make the campaign a success.'We are going to get government involved to see how we show this movie in schools, churches and mosques. Look at what is happening in our schools; no matter what you teach your child, he will go to school and face the realities of the society. We need to reach out to people; young people need encouragement and challenges to ginger them.'If you have an idea on how to take this movie around, please don't hesitate to come onboard; this is not a Tade Ogidan film, it's a Nigerian project.'Even as he recounted the many challenges faced during the production, the filmmaker retorted that the end result is worth the stress.'Its is a lot of challenges, but we conquered it with the team; we shot this movie three times. In all, we did a fantastic job. We all can't keep quiet and pretend that all is well. The truth is that, when we join hands together in this initiative, there's bound to be a change in our society.'Produced by OGD pictures in collaboration with DJA Media and shot on locations in London, Family on fire tells the story of young garrulous Kunle, who fooled his brothers in a scheme to invite their aged illiterate mother to the UK. Unknown to his elder brothers, his real intention is to use the woman to smuggle hard drugs into London. Something goes wrong and the owners of the drugs (the deadly London Mafia) go on rampage to reclaim their cherished merchandise, thereby setting the whole family on fire.
