Adio: Visual arts sector gradually heading for the rocks

JAJI Muyideen Adio is a renowned Zaria-based sculptor and art teacher. The Ilorin, Kwara State-born artist teaches Sculpture at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. He has participated in several group and solo exhibitions and his works, which adorn both public and private institutions, have continued to inspire his contemporaries and the younger generation of artists. In this interview, Adio explains why he believes that the visual arts sector is gradually dying, and why he is of the opinion that the future of visual arts is constantly being slowed down by the introduction of seemingly unnecessary innovations. He also shares his experiences on his preoccupation with experimenting with stunted figures, as well as his early encounters with modeling. He spoke with TONY OKUYEME.
