The Senate, on Tuesday, approved a bill prohibiting same-sex marriage. The move comes against the backdrop of threat by British Prime Minister, David Cameron, to cut foreign aid to countries that violate the 'rights' of homosexuals. With Nigerians applauding passage of the bill, BISI ALABI WILLIAMS, GBENGA AKINFENWA and TOYIN ADEYEMI felt the mood of religious leaders on the subject of gays and lesbians. As it appears, advocates of same-sex marriage in the country may have an eternity to wait, if view of the clerics are anything to go by.'Nigerians Should Ignore International Proponents Of Homosexuality'(Dr. Lateef Adegbite, Secretary-General, The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA)THE Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) commends the Senate for unanimously passing the Same- Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill. It is a step in the right direction and wholly agrees with the wishes of Nigerian People.We urge the House of Representatives to proceed without delay to pass the Bill too, trusting that the President would also promptly assent to the Bill.Nigerians should ignore international busy bodies that want them to join in abominable practices by legalising and celebrating homosexuality and sodomy, on the grounds of so-called individual freedom.'It Is Not A Human Rights Issue'(Rev. David Cameron and his like are part of the emerging international conspiracy to further destroy this world through homosexuality and same-sex marriage.I know that the pursuit of human rights is the facade under which the western world and their agencies such as the United Nations are hiding to champion the legalisation of same-sex marriage. But somebody should please tell them that this is not a human rights affair; it is a matter between God and His people. God has set standards for inter-personal relationships. God knew that man needed sexual relationship and for this reason, He created them male and female. He did not create them male and male. If this world were all about human rights, then we could equally legalise armed robbery, murder and terrorism. It is what the Bible calls sexual perversion. I am aware that no religion in this country supports such an act. The scripture is very clear on the fact that God is against such act. When God created Adam and Eve, the purpose was to ensure that each of them has someone to relate with. If God wanted them to get married to someone of the same sex, he would not have created the woman from the rib of Adam but rather create another man to help him.In Genesis 19:1, God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of such act. This implies that God is totally against such and any nation that does not respect the will of God will eventually be destroyed. Such issue cannot be overlooked. It is even better that it is brought to the limelight now so that it can be tackled totally.Automatically, it is driving the nation into a place of total destruction. The sin that God detests most is the sin of sexual immorality. I believe the present crop of lawmakers we have are those that would not allow their names to be soiled. The Senate has demonstrated that it is truly honourable by rejecting the bill and I believe the lower chamber will also do the same.
