Awards, Pageant For Household Of God's Grace 2011

THIS year's Grace programme of the Household of God Church, Oregun, Lagos, comes up on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the church's auditorium. The event was established in 1990 by pastor of the church, Rev. Chris Okotie, as a way of extending the love of Jesus Christ to the less privileged. GRACE is an acronym for 'God's Riches At Christ's Expense'.Among dignitaries expected are Governor Peter Obi of Anambra, and the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe. A highlight of the event is the Karis Award, which will be given to ace goalkeeper of the Green Eagles, and Enugu Rangers, Emmanuel Okala, an indigene of Onitsha, Anambra State. This explains why the Obi and the governor would grace the event. The award, which goes with a cash prize of N1million, aims at appreciating Nigerians who have impacted positively on the nation but have not been recognised by the government.Four charitable organisations will also receive donations of 500, 000 naira each. They are: Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted, Sunshine Foundation, Little Saints Orphanage, and Spinal Cord Injuries Association.Also featuring is the Queen Esther beauty pageant where the winner takes home N1million.Praise At ECWA ConcertMUSIC by the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) was showcased last Sunday during the Glory Concert of the church in Lagos. Members and well-wishers were thrilled with renditions, singing and dancing to God. The concert was the climax of the weeklong convention of the church theme 'We are God's Workmanship'. Musical groups included ECWA Music All-Star Ministry. There were also choreographic displays by the children department while seven-year-old sax sensation, Tosin Sax, drew applause and standing ovations from the congregants. The guest minister, Rev. James Folaranmi, emphasised the importance of developing a grateful attitude towards God. He said only grateful Christians will attain greatness.Jefferson Tasks Govt On DevelopmentTHE General Overseer of Mercy Tabernacle, Apostle Bankole Jefferson, has called on President Jonathan to speed up action on development projects to ease the suffering of the common man. The cleric made this call in Lagos during his 50th birthday anniversary and launch of his autobiography. 'There must be more action on the side of government. The government is too slow. At this snail speed of development, people are dying of hunger and wasting away. When one is hungry for too long, one might be tempted to do what one would otherwise not do. Let Jonathan be proactive,' he said. The guest speaker, Dr. Robert Johnson, who spoke on ways to avoid early aging, said: 'Contentment is the watchword for any man who wants to age gracefully. There is no need for anxiety over materialism. Rest for you can't finish everything in one day.''Chijioke Iremeka7 Signs Of A New Beginning, LaunchedA BOOK entitled, 7 Signs Of A New Beginning, written by Pastor Gbenga Oyewale-Davies of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, was on Saturday, November 26, launched at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Living Stone Assembly), Abule-Egba, Lagos. Reviewing the 132-page book, which examines the life of King Saul of the Bible, Pastor Solomon Olu-Ajisafe, describes it as 'narrative and conversational.' According to him, 'It is very easy to read, and even though it centres on the story of King Saul, it can be applied to every life. The book can help someone who is ignorant of God's plan for his life. Oyewale-Davies, who made a promise to present God a book every year, said the idea for the book was conceived in 2008. 'It was a year that God did some new things in my life,' he said. The guest speaker, Pastor Tunji Adigun, urged Christians to embrace change.'Chris IrekambaMFM Women Foundation Clocks FiveFOUNDED by Pastor Shade Olukoya, wife of the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, the Women Foundation aims at empowering Christian women through adult literacy, enhancing skills acquisition and raising prayer warriors.To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the foundation, last week at Prayer City, tens of thousands of women from all walks of life and various denominations gathered in appreciation to God for the growth of the initiative. The event attracted dignitaries including wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs.Abimbola Fashola and Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu.NASFAT Gift To Baby Of The YearWOMEN of the Islamic group, NASFAT'Nasrul-lahi-l-Fatih Society of Nigeria, last week, donated gifts to the Baby of the Year at Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital in celebration of the new Islamic year (Hijrah). National Women Affairs Secretary, Alhaja Nofisat Arogundade, said: 'We deem it fit to visit hospitals to show our feelings to the Baby of the Year. Any baby born on this day is our baby. We will try, as much as possible, to monitor the child and give it necessary support.' She advised mothers to train children in the way of Islam. The gifts included diapers, shawl, bag and the sum of N10,000.'Oluwakemi AjaniBring And Share Programme For Dec.
